How to Pack for a Move

Packing is most of the work in a move. A little method makes it painless.

Start early, one room at a time

Begin with the rooms you use least. Finish one room fully before opening the next so nothing gets half-packed and lost.

Get the right materials

  • Sturdy boxes in two or three sizes
  • Packing paper and bubble wrap for fragiles
  • Strong tape and a marker for labelling
  • Wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes

Protect the fragile things

Wrap glassware and dishes in paper and stand plates on edge. Fill empty space so nothing shifts. Mark these boxes 'fragile' on the top and sides.

Label everything

Write the room and a short note of the contents on every box. It turns unloading into a fast, organized job instead of a guessing game.
